Founded by Ernesta Procope in 1953 as the first woman-owned insurance brokerage, EG Bowman has been a leading presence in the insurance industry.
Courage and dedication.
Founded by Ernesta Procope in 1953 as the first woman-owned insurance brokerage, EG Bowman has been a leading presence in the insurance industry due to their courage and dedication to overcome the many political obstacles at that time. Procope started EG Bowman in Brooklyn, and in 1979, moved the office to Wall Street, making her the first African American to own a company in the heart of New York’s financial sector.
The first lady of Wall Street.
Ernst and Young presented Procope with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1993, and ten years later, in 2003, she was admitted into the African American Hall of Fame. She received her induction into the Minority Business Hall of Fame and Museum in 2006. By that point she was known as “The First Lady of Wall Street.” Procope officially retired in 2016, and she passed away on November 30, 2021, at the age of 98.
Earning trust one client at a time.
EG Bowman‘s ‘secret recipe’ since day one has been the implementation of “personal attention.” Carrying the motto of “earning trust one client at a time,” this ever-growing brokerage team is constantly reminded of the Procope family formula of the ethical model of how the company was founded.
