About Us

Our Founder, Ernesta Procope, set up a small insurance office in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York to serve the needs of local residents. At the humble inception of EG Bowman in 1953, "the idea that it would one day serve America's biggest companies and become the nation's largest minority-owned and woman-owned insurance brokerage seemed as likely as men going to the moon."

Located on Wall Street since 1979, the Bowman Company now provides insurance coverage to more than 2,000 clients, including Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, non-profits, financial companies, and religious institutions. E.G. Bowman continues to provide incomparable Insurance & Risk Management services to our customers in both the residential and commercial communities.

The Procopes were also a driving force behind the creation of the FAIR plan in 1968 which provided homeowner insurance to all New York State residents. Mrs. Procope is as professional and determined as she was in 1953. A recipient of many honors, she still serves on numerous corporate boards .
